As we come together on the cusp of fall, we'll draw inspiration from the inherent balance of the equinox. The equinox marks a point of equilibrium when day and night are of equal length, symbolizing the delicate dance of light and darkness within us.

1️⃣ Grounding Opening:** We'll begin with a centering pranayama (breathwork), connecting to the earth's energies to ground ourselves and create a strong foundation.

2️⃣ Sun Salutations:** Flow through a series of Sun Salutations, paying homage to the sun's energy that has sustained us throughout the vibrant summer months.

3️⃣ Harvest and Gratitude:** Through heart-opening postures, we'll cultivate a sense of gratitude for the abundance in our lives and the harvest season ahead.

Yoga at the Library

Here in the US, Halloween is both a family-oriented children's holiday and an occasion for those of all ages to creatively express themselves and engage in play in the realm of make-believe and fantasy through costumes, trick-or-treating, storytelling, pranks, and some scary fun.

All over the globe, this time of year is celebrated in different ways with various traditions and festivals, All Hallow's Eve, Dia de Los Muertos, and Samhain. While the origins and celebration rituals vary, traditionally, it's a time for honoring the dead. We can remember and keep our loved ones in many ways: lighting candles, gathering with family and friends, feasting, and holding ceremonies.

In yoga, we can use our physical practice to honor our ancestors or loved ones by dedicating our practice to them. Make time to sit in meditation and conjure up the memory of a great being who has passed. Imagine them sitting in front of you. Tune into their essence and bring them into your heart. Feel the quality of your love for them. Acknowledge how they helped you and loved you. Then send them your gratitude for all you received.

Harvest Moon Yoga on the Greenway

"Full" is the term describing the moon as it reflects light from the sun. It denotes an abundance of acquired goodness, heightened energy, receptivity, and strength.

The arrival of the Harvest Moon means summer is officially coming to an end, marking a great time to be reflective, set intentions, and let go of things holding you back before we get into the colder and more stagnant months.

Clear your mind with breathwork and move your body with gentle stretching and a flow of yoga postures to honor the Harvest Moon and align with its energy through spinal rotations to twist and wring out what no longer serves, leaving the hot summer days behind and heart-opening bends to receive the abundant energy of the full Harvest moon.

Soothe your soul in a moving meditation while the sun sets, and the full Harvest moon rises.
